FAQ - FORUM

Below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding the forum:

1. Do I have to pay a membership fee?

It is absolutely free. The forum is provided to encourage and promote breastfeeding. It is managed by a group of breastfeeding mothers from all parts of Malaysia on a voluntary basis.

2. Is this a public forum?

This forum is closely moderated (monitored) by a group of dedicated women who believe that breastmilk is best for baby.

3. Who are behind this forum?

The website and forum is managed by Lilian of Penang. She is a full-time mother to 5 sons, writes for parenting magazines and newspapers when she has time and involves in community works. She is supported by Sheela (an extended nursing mother) and Maria (breastfeeding twins) who are the administrators and several dedicated breastfeeding mothers who moderate the forum. The names of the moderators of MyMomsBest forum can be seen from the forum board.

3. Why can't I see a profile of all the members?

This is a security measure to protect the privacy of the members. However, members have the option of including a short description of themselves in their signature block which will appear at each posting.

4. What do I need to know before posting?

New members are encouraged to read through the forum board first and understand the few rules stated there. We do not allow members to solicit for business, share the links of other websites (as they may not be reliable), repeat a question that had been asked recently and a few other matters. Advertisement space is available if one is interested in selling their products/services.

5. I am not very good in English but would like to join the forum. Can I use Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin?

All Malaysian and Singaporean parents are welcome to surf the website and forum board. The forum board does not support Mandarin (fonts) but members can use our helpline to ask a question related to breastfeeding. Most of our members are proficient in Bahasa Malaysia so postings in BM is most welcome.

6. Why can't I see the breastfeeding questions?

The breastfeeding forum is only accessible after the new member has made an introduction on the forum or write to the administrators. This is to protect the privacy of the members.

7. I lost my password. Where do I get them?

The administrators of the forum board DO NOT have the members passwords. One has to write to the forum board provider (phBB). You can find the link on the top right hand corner of the forum board.

8. I want to change my user name.

Sorry, the administrators do not have the ability to do that too. Sign up with another name.

9. Why do I get rejected after registering?

As mentioned in item 2, this forum is for parents. Therefore, if you sign up with a user ID that the administrators do not feel comfortable with, they have the right to reject the membership. Or probably you have put a link to a site they do not approve. (Only links to photopages are allowed unless you are one of our advertisers/supporters.)

10. I am not a breastfeeding mother. Can I join too?

Of course, all parents who share the belief that breastmilk is best are welcome. Everyone can do their part in encouraging breastfeeding. The information/awareness you gained can be shared with your friends/relatives/colleagues to encourage them to breastfeed.

11. Are there any taboo subject which I should know of which I cannot post?

There is no right or wrong question. We had discussed religions (related to children upbringing) and other sensitive issues in a very harmonious manner. However, ideally all members are reminded that a breastfeeding and informed parenting website like MyMomsBest expects :

  • no discussion on formula milk or processed infant food
  • minimal discussion about traditional practices not recognised by the medical sector
  • minimal discussion on early baby/childhood education

12. All the members seem to know each other well. I am a new member and do not know how to join in their discussion.

We are all strangers sharing the same passion that breastfeeding is the best gift for our children. Therefore, each new member will be warmly welcomed by the regular members. Never feel shy or hesitate to join in sharing your thoughts with us.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO KNOW YOU IN THE FORUM!
