Photo of Zambuk, an ointment favoured by parents for insect bites. NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN BELOW TWO YEARS OLD.
Sometimes it get tiring when we have to repeat the same topic over and over again a forum. But usually, there is no choice because new parents come and they have plenty of things to ask. Recently, a mom insisted that her baby who is barely four months old get very comfortable using Vicks Vapour Rub.
I told her that it is not safe to apply Vicks and one doctor that I know will throw away all his patients supplies if he sees them in the hospital ward. But she said it is good! Oh well, I do get very anal when new members (new parents) argue with me.
So, I went to the pharmacy and snapped a couple of photos to prove my point. The above is the box of Vicks Vapour Rub.
New parents – Don’t be ignorant. Read the fine prints on the boxes. Don’t assume that whatever your old folks tell you, it is safe. Though we don’t see or hear of any serious or fatal injuries, it doesn’t mean that it cannot happen. Babies can get seizure inhaling methyl salicylate and menthol which are the common ingredients found in these sort of ointments. And stay away from Wintergreen oil because if ingested, they can die. This includes any muscle aches relief. Keep them safe, away from children’s reach.

Found ur blog while i was researching on Zam-buk, my relative recommend it to cure a bruise on my baby (around 8 months) head… After reading this, gonna put it deep inside my medical drawer…
thx!
