Vaginal tag & Bartholin gland cyst
Nov 22nd, 2006 by Lilian
Few days ago, one of our forum member mentioned about a lump near her daughter’s private part. After she had seen a doctor, she was told that it is vaginal tag and the doctor advised her to see an ob-gynae if the problem cause discomforts.
I had Googled for some information. You know….doctors Google, so we do the same too.
I learnt a little bit about vaginal tags and Bartholin gland cyst. Of course, they are not the same and probably happens only female babies and adults.
One doctor (of course, identity not verified) from the obgyn forum said this about vaginal tag:
It is extra vaginal tissue, and she came with it from the factory. No biggie
From there, I learnt that there is another kind of swelling that can happen to adult female call Bartholin gland cyst. Explanation taken from American Family Physician:
What is a Bartholin gland cyst?
The Bartholin gland is a tiny organ on each of the labia (vaginal lips), near the opening of the vagina. If the vagina were the face of a clock, these glands would be found at about 4 and 8 o’clock. Normally they are invisible. They put out a small amount of fluid to lubricate the vaginal lips. If a flap of skin grows over the opening to one of the glands, the fluid backs up. It causes a round swelling called a Bartholin gland cyst (say this: sis-st). The cyst can grow from the size of a penny to larger than an orange, although most don’t get bigger than a golf ball. They can be tender.
Hmmm….I didn’t know Bartholin gland exists until now. Now, I know its function. It is the dam controller! Hahaha.
