My 10 years old goes to school around 7.20 am because the school is just next door. On certain days, the school kids have to attend sports practice, club meeting and one uniform body training. Today is such day.

He finished at 1.05 pm and walked back to have a breather. I gave him a quick lunch and off he goes again. Well, he is lucky as the school is just next door and I am home waiting with a lunch all ready to be eaten. But what about the other school kids? They probably left home at 6 am, waking up around 5 am. Then, they normally hang around till all the activities are finished. Usually, most of them won’t be eating lunch as well as the canteen foods are finished by lunch time. What they can get are junk foods sold outside the school.

My kid will only finish his club and scout meeting at 5 pm. It is not a problem for boisterous boys of course. But there are some very sickly looking kids hanging around the school like these everyday, under the hot sun. Some of these never return home after school but wait for their parents to finish their work around 5 pm.

Well, this is school - Malaysian style.
