Pregnancy-Related Depression

Pregnancy is a very emotional period for almost every woman. The fear of the unknown and the worries of the threat against our fragile pregnancy are enough to give a lot of women sleepless nights. Then, there is the expectations from the in-laws and maybe the husband too. What about the turmoil of all the hormones running through our system.
Most women will get some sort of upsetting period. Tears and tantrums. These are part and parcel of pregnancy. But what is normal and what is not?
Do read this article which I picked up on pregnancy related depression or what some call pregnancy blues. Recognise the symptoms and don’t be afraid to talk to your friends and even doctors. It helps to talk and find peer support.
Before pregnancy, 8.7% were identified as depressed by their health care providers; 6.9% were classified as depressed during the pregnancy, and 10.4% were depressed in the nine months after delivery. In all, 15.4%, or more than one in seven of the women, were depressed during at least one of the three periods.
