Non-picky eaters

Trials and errors. From an over-protective mom to a ‘que-sera-sera’ mom. Lots of lessons learnt. One of them is ‘How not to raise a picky eater and then, complain endlessly about it’.
With the eldest, we weighed the nutritional values, considered the health factors, worried about the old beliefs and yadda yadda yadda. Then, we found that meal-times was a battle. I could spend sleepless nights counting how many spoons of rice, how many square inches of bread, how many slices of food had gone down my eldest son’s stomach.
With the youngest one, we just let it rip. He eats whatever he wants and whenever he wants. And life is a breeze. (of course, we provide only foods that are edible within his age group)
If he doesn’t want anything green (vegetables), then ok, fine. Because I’d rather he eats a full plate of rice and protein dishes than to battle it out and ended up with tears and un-eaten brocollis, rice and meats.
So, if your child is picky about the kind of foods he takes, maybe you will like to see if any one of your family member has been over reacting, showing examples of being fussy, turned meals into ‘must-do or die’ situations or is everyone enjoying foods like it is a treat?
Seen above is a toddler who excitedly waits for his share of durians. And mind you, he only likes bitter taste durians which his older brothers can’t endure. It is such a joy to have a non-picky eater.
