I have blogged about the alert raised in China regarding the hand foot and mouth disease or HFMD. So many children have died of the disease caused by the virus EV-71.
This HFMD has occured in many countries including our own state in Sarawak. When the outbreak happened, it left all of us mothers with young children terribly worried because most of us cannot keep our children at home as we have to leave them at daycare. When they are there, they are open to so many infections.
Please look at the frequently asked questions on HFMD and be aware.
Below is the latest news from Xinhua on the EV-71.
China hand-foot-mouth infections hit 16,778
www.chinaview.cn 2008-05-07 21:57:36 PrintBEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) — The number of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) cases reported in China this year jumped to 16,778 as of Wednesday, resulting in 28 deaths, according to a Xinhua tally of local official figures.
The figure stood at 15,799 on Monday, Xinhua found.
The rising number was not a sign of deteriorating situation, but mainly due to a recent order by the Ministry of Health that made HFMD a class C epidemic, the incidence of which must be reported.
The northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reported 131 sporadic infections, according to Wang Wenrui, an official with the region’s disease control and prevention center.
The local government has ordered shut down of all kindergartens and implementation of morning inspection at primary schools in the worst-hit Dengkou County until the epidemic eases.
Tianjin reported 134 HFMD cases, including 113 children below five years old.
