Children dentist

Mar 14th, 2008 by Lilian

I was at the dentist the other day and there was this boy of six years old who needed several fillings for his cavities. Children dentist is hard to come by and not every dentist is trained to be a children dentist. However, my dentist is this friendly, chatty woman who has her ways with children.

I overheard the dentist asked the little boy if he wants an injection to avoid pain during drilling but the little boy said he doesn’t need it. Oh wow, is he special or what? Then, the dentist started drilling and I could hear him whimpering a few times. The boy’s mom and the dentist again asked the boy if he wants injection and he proudly and bravely said he didn’t want it.

I am not sure if the word injection scared him enough to withstand the pain or what. Personally, I have never taken my children to see a dentist. I have dentist phobia so I normally leave the task to my hubby. He is one cool cat and is better at consoling my child. Otherwise, I will rub off my frayed nerves on my son and that is not helping at all.

So, do you see a pediatric dentist or do you just go to any dentist for your child’s dental check-up? Do you know any good children dentist around?

When Superwoman gives up. I’m a single mother who 18 year old (still in high school) son has been blinded by his $15,000.00 settlement. His father, auntie, and grandmother are all on drugs and haven’t really been in his life. Now he has money they have brain washed him to trun against me. They told him that I am stealing his money and he should run away to their house. I lost my job last year. We where 2 house notes behind and I made he pay ONE house note. So, his God-Mother who I haven’t spoken with in years, told him she will help sue me and put me in jail. Then he could live with her for $500.00 a month, but he has to buy his own food.
He felt that our house was a waste and I shouldn’t have a big house (3 bedrooms). We live in this house for going on 9 years. He told me if I loss the house he has some place to go…”Sad I know”.
My son has always been respectful, actor, Homecoming King, Star Football player and most pop. student in 2008-09. He just started to change after he received this money. I throught if I gave him half of his money ($7000.00) he would be ok, but his girlfriend mother is saling him a $6000.00 car, even after I say he couldn’t have a car because insurance was to much for him and I to pay for. He’s buying the car anyway and he is trying to take me to court for the remaining of his money. His heart is so cold, he stop cleaning up, and he stop listening to me. He told me that it’s my own fault if I in up in jail for holding his money for college. Buy the way he spend $1000.00 in 3 weeks, but couldn’t tell me where it went. Plus he lost his settlementn balance book. I at a lost with myself and my son. I love him but I feel like my work here is done. It’s only me and my son. Now that he’s trying to put me in jail, I have no job and the only reason why I worked is for my son. I’m useless. He hates me and my family feels I need to give him all the money and let him fall, but if I’m gone he would make it.

As a general dentist who sees her fair share of children patients, I would advise you to take your child to whomever you are comfortable with (ie treats your child as you think he/she should be treated). You would be amazed at what a child who is adequately prepared by his dentist and parent would be willing to go through. Children have a fear of the unknown, so it helps if they know what the visit will be like. He also needs to know what will happen to him before it happens. Your dentist can do most of this informing. I have successfully cleaned teeth and done fillings for children as young as 3 and I dare say they are willing to come back for more if necessary.
You are wise not to pass on negative experiences/fears to your child. There aren’t that many pediatric dentists in malaysia, mainly available in govt sector.
