I am curious. As parents, have you ever thought of keeping some family heirlooms which you can hand down for generations? I think in this age, we no longer have money to spare to buy heirlooms like antiques, gold or silver to keep for our children’s future prosperity.

Whatever money we have, we need to use them for their education. But think about it. Wouldn’t it be nice to keep several precious items that we can distribute out when we have passed on? I can imagine my descendants gathering in front of the lawyer while my will is read out and properties, precious metals and lots of money are handed out. Of course, this is just a silly thinking. I won’t be able to afford them.

But still, it will be good to be able to invest in some of these because we never know how secure our future is. In bad times, money and properties no longer worth anything. But gold, silver and jewels will probably get a passage to safer grounds. Ok, maybe I have read far too many war torn stories.

Also, do you realised that we won’t be able to say, “Born with a silver spoon in the mouth” if we didn’t have the silver to pass on to our grandchildren?

Many moms have asked me if I can recommend any beddings that is free from dustmites as their children are allergic. My two sons were tested and they are also allergic to dustmites. Their doctors recommended changing beddings weekly and that’s what I did for them when they were smaller. However, there are beddings designed to reduce the problems but we have to also ensure that our child’s environment elsewhere are clean.

For example, is the place where he spends most of his day time not dusty as well? Are the furniture clean? Is he rolling and playing in a dusty, sofa most of the time? What about the daycare/babysitter he goes to, if any?

Another major problem I have with furniture is those leather covers which grow fungus in our moist, tropical climate. They look absolutely horrible if we leave it for a few days when we are away on holidays. If you have leather upholstery like that, you may want to find out how to take proper care of them. One can get leather cleaner to protect the leather and at the same time, make sure that it looks nice, stay clean and last longer.

My dad indulged me with tales of Christmas Elves and Santa Claus as a child. Days before Christmas Eve, I would tried to stay awake at night to see if there are any little elves running around the house helping Santa to deliver presents. It is funny how my dad who is not a Christian would give me this special memory because that was probably the only memory I had of him because he died when I was only seven years old.

But I remembered the letter I had to write to Santa and also what I got for my first Christmas. Dad died after two years of playing Santa but praise God, today I am a Christian and celebrates the birth of Christ and rejoice that my family can carry on this tradition.

Almost every household has a microwave oven. It is especially useful for busy parents with small children. Very often, mothers asked if it is ok to heat their expressed milk in the microwave oven. Sometimes, they use it to prepare baby foods.

Personally, I always like to remind mothers to avoid heating their babies’ milk bottle in the microwave oven due to hotspots which can scald their babies. However, there are parents whom are so familiar with heating milk this way. They always remember to give the bottle a gentle shake and test before feeding their babies.

Then, parents also asked if they should get a simple microwave only oven or one with several features like grilling, roasting and baking? Well, the best is to read up and know what is the latest technology. This site has explanations on the various types of oven like standard microwave, microwave with grills, combination microwaves and built in microwaves. Do know their differences before buying yourself a microwave oven.

My children, just like any other children, love pets and animals of all shapes and sizes. I let them have their own small pets when they are old enough to care for it, like when they are 5-6 years old. I took care of most parts but feeding and ensuring that the pets are given attention were mostly their duties. I find it such a good lesson for them. They learn responsibilities by nurturing these little creatures.

They started with goldfishes and then, rabbits and hamsters. Though pet care seems like an easy thing to do, it actually needs lots of education. We must find the proper environment/beddings for them and provide proper foods. Some early mistakes have cause a few of our fishes bloated!

Now that the children are older, they learn all they need about pets rearing from websites dedicated to pet cares on the internet like this one where the pets speak too!. The site provides articles on communicating with your pet, pet health and pet care. They can now care for litters of newborn hamsters with confidence. If we have a house, we are going to get them a couple of dogs or maybe small dogs!

If your children are not allergic to pets dander, do give them a chance to experience taking care of pets. I can say that it makes them realise and learn a lot about nature and also about love and caring. Of course, the only downside is when the pet dies…..Then again, it is also a good lesson to teach them about life and death.
