I picked up this news over the media about the doctors’ new stand. Apparently, they used to label fat kids with nice names so as to make them less inferior about their weight issues. However, all these nice labels are giving the kids the lack of desire to lose weight. So, now they are into labelling fat kids as obese and not something sweeter like ‘potential to be overweight’ or some politically correct phrases like that.

I think as parents, we have the heavy responsibility to make sure that our kids grow up with good self-image of themselves. We certainly do not want them to get low esteem with names like porky, fatty, fatso, roundie and ugly names like that. So, ultimately, it lies on us to make sure that they get proper nutrition and adequate exercise.

Of course, if you are an adult and hate the names, then try natural weight loss products.

Since I have kids age 18 years to five years old, I can observe the popularity trend in their favourite superheroes. Kids no longer dig Superman because lately there aren’t any nice, new Superman movie. But Batman remains forever because of the newer movies like Dark Knight.

So, as parents, we have to constantly seek the kind of Halloween Costumes they want instead of what we think is the ideal Halloween costumes. After all, kids have minds of their own and they surely hate us to dictate what to wear.

I was chatting with my little boy on what kind of kids Halloween costumes he will want if he gets invited to a costume party. He told me he loves Star Wars and both of us went in search of a nice site to find costumes he has in mind. We stumbled upon this site with a huge array of kids Halloween costumes.

They have so many stuffs there, it will make shopping for things Halloween makeup, costumes and etc so much easier.

My son asked me who is my favourite Jedi. Well, I am not much into Star Wars so I told him, “I don’t know!” He quoted some names which are so foreign to me. He showed me this Star Wars Halloween costume and asked if he can have it? The new Star Wars movie is coming so I am sure all the kids will love costumes like the below.

I think one of the features that we parents are most concern with should be the safety of the costumes. So, if you are also looking for a Halloween costume, check the CPSC Halloween safety page and see that the costumes you are buying for your child is safe.

Oh don’t forget to get one for yourself and also the whole family. I am sure it will be fun to dress as a family of witches or pirates.

I found this old photo in my photo album. Time flies really fast. In 2002, my third son was in K2 and it was his ‘graduation’ year.

Frankly, I hate kindergarten concert. It costs a lot of money to pay for those costumes and sometimes, the kid needs two or even three costumes changes. They cost me a bomb and after the event, those clothes are not wearable anymore. Such a waste of money isn’t it?

Then, there is the competitive parents trying to take photos and hence, blocking the views of everyone in the audience.

The last time, in 2002, digital cameras were not a necessity and not every parents have it. It is a different thing now and I wonder what my youngest son concert is going to be like in….
2010?

Bruxism/Teeth grinding is a something that bothers me a lot. One of my son has this habit and when I heard he grind teeth with all those grinding noises, I feel so uncomfortable. Firstly, the sound sounds like chalk screeching on board. Secondly, I cannot do anything about it.

Some people with bruxism unconsciously clench their teeth together during the day, often when they feel anxious or tense. This is different from tooth grinding or clenching that occurs at night, which is called sleep bruxism. Most children who are bruxers do so at night, while adults are either daytime or nighttime bruxers. (Mayo Clinic)

However, luckily he has grown out of the grind teeth period and now, I don’t hear it happens anymore. Many doctors said these are due to stress but as a mom, it is so hard to accept that our kid is stressed out when we have done all we can to give them a happy world.

But with all the start of kindie, new environment, new babysitter and etc, kids do get stressed and grind teeth in their sleep.

Oh how I wish I can still put him for an afternoon nap nowadays. But nope, my little boy will sleep till 11 am to noon and he is fully ‘charged’ for a whole day. He will be watching the clock to wait for his brothers to return home so that he can play with them.

Nowadays, my middle two sons won’t be home till 3 pm to 4 pm and he keeps grumbling that he is bored. Sigh…I asked him to take a nap with me but he said, “my battery fully charged”. *roll eyes*

I went to the dentist the other day with my fifteen years old son. For some weird reason, he seems to have weak teeth compared to my other sons. This second son of mine seems to have more cavities than them eventhough he took care of his teeth most. Since they are small, my hubby is the one who normally go to the children dentist with them. I usually stay behind because I am such a nervous wreck at dentists so I feel it is best that I stay away from the children dentist.

Anyway, now that my son is fifteen, he is much braver than me. In fact, it was him who insisted that both of us go to the dentist to get our teeth checked and cavities filled. So, both of us were at the dentist. We prodded each other to go first. I actually prefer to get my teeth done first because I hate sitting there at the cold clinic in my children dentist and listen to those drills.

So, parents, if you want to ease the nerves of your children at the children dentist, do stay away from them if you get tensed and nervous. Your child will sense it and it will make them even more afraid of children dentist. Of course, if you have a spouse to deal with the task, then, you can afford to do so.

My little boy always pronounce ‘r’ as ‘w’. So, boring sounds like ‘borwing’. Last week was a short school holidays and he had such fun with my #3 son. These few days, my #3 son has gone back to school and he has to studied till 3.30 pm. Darn education we have there, school hours last from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm. On Wednesday, there are scouts activities and my son only gets back at 5.30 pm. But that’s another rant for another day.

Now, my little boy seems so lost without his brother to entertain him. Both of us can have only so much reading, writing, watching TV and doing nothing. To entertain him, we bake cookies but how many batches of cookies can we bake? The weather is too hot for any outdoor things.

So, all I hear is ‘Mommy I am so borwing’ until my other son comes back. Sigh.
