Another son needs spectacles
Feb 1st, 2008 by Lilian
My eldest son wore spectacles when he was only six years old. My second son has perfect eyesight. My third son is complaining that he has difficulties reading the words on the blackboard. I know this day will come because 50% of my kids will eventually need glasses as I wore since I was 10 years old.
My paediatrician told me that there is nothing much we can do about this as it is more genetic than any other factors. He explained to me why children need glasses. Therefore, I am not bothered about this because it is something unavoidable.
However, just now, we took our child to the shop but that lousy shop does not have an optometrist. Instead, they only have a very unprofessional looking optician. He said my son’s eyes are fine. Now, I am not going to trust his words. I will bring my son to my regular optometrist to have his eyes check again.
I like my regular optometrist because he is so familiar with my eyes and have helped to give me monovision contact lenses and recently prescribed me multi focals spectacles. His consultation fee is a bit pricey but with that kind of thorough eye test, I wouldn’t mind paying. After all, what I want is the right prescription and I can easily find those $ 8 Zenni Optical Rx Eyeglasses to match the prescription with the right eyeglasses.
So, parents, don’t worry too much about your children’s eyesight. If they are going to need glasses, they are going to need it. There is nothing much we can do except to ensure they don’t stare too long at PCs and TVs, don’t read in the dark and all those stuffs. No amount of carrots are going to help. ![]()
