I posted about this 63 yrs old mother who had an IVF using a donated egg and the sperm of her new husband to get a baby.
It is sad sometimes, when celebrities and other rich people pile on money to bring about a baby. Sometimes, it is more like a game (full story here)
She had given birth and there are lots of opposing views about this case. Here is one :
Fertility experts urge end to ‘selfish’ late motherhood
Daniel Foggo and Lois Rogers - Times Online
A TOP fertility doctor has called for an end to the practice of elderly women giving birth after a 62-year-old became the oldest mother in Britain.
A campaigner on ethical reproduction accused Rashbrook yesterday of being “selfish” and “irresponsible”. Josephine Quintavalle, founder of Comment on Reproductive Ethics, said that Rashbrook had “totally distorted nature”.
“What she has done is selfish, it is an example of putting her own wants ahead of those of the child,” she said. “I am sure the reaction from most of the population to this is one of revulsion and distaste.
The baby is the result of the couple’s fifth attempt to conceive, a process that cost £10,000.
So crazy! I mean I’m not really sure how I feel about a woman of that age giving birth. I mean sure she can do it because of In Vitro Fertilization but does that make it okay.
I know people are living longer which makes it easier to worry about age less, but the kid’s mother is likely going to be dead before they hit 30. The whole thing just seems like a pretty selfish move. Having kids past the age of 30 (the first child) greatly increases the risk for problems not only in the child, but also in the mother. I guess she can risk her own health if she wants, but risking bringing a seriously unhealthy child into the world seems off to me.
I think that if any woman considers having a child past the age of 40 she should make sure to have serious and in depth amounts of prenatal care. The child’s saftey and health has to be of the utmost priority.
